Review of Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands

This is a quick review of Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands that I bought to replace the pair of 2-year old Flexson Floorstand For Sonos One and Play 1.  I have a Sonos 5.1 setup in my living room comprising of the PlayBar, Sub, and 2 x Play:1 as the rear speakers.  As Sonos devices are wirelessly connected, besides power sockets to power up the Sonos Play:1, a pair of stands is necessary to place the 2 rear Sonos Play:1 at a reasonable height for good 5.1 sound effects.  The pair of Flexson Floorstand For Sonos One and Play 1 was serving their purposes until I noticed disintegration and rusts on them.  The base plates were splitting up into their layers while the stand and screws were showing signs of corrosion and rust.  I’m not living by the sea so I can only attribute these symptoms to the hot and humid weather of Singapore.

What is this Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands?

For speaker stands, I looked out for a few key requirements.  The first requirement is the price – it must be less than S$150.  The second requirement is stability – it must be stable and firm even with the heavy speakers installed.  The third requirement is the outlook – the stand design must be clean and neat with the ability to conceal the cables.  I bought the Flexson Floorstand For Sonos One and Play 1 from Amazon UK back then as the local prices in Singapore for something similar is too high.  I chanced upon the Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands while looking around on Amazon USA again.  It has a rating of 4.75 out of 5 stars and the comments were pretty good.  The Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands has the following features based on the manufacturer’s website,

The Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands were ordered from Amazon.com via Amazon SG for S$160.  Shipping was free as I have Prime membership on Amazon SG.  I remembered correctly, Amazon SG was having some promotion and I got back a S$20 amazon gift card.  Effectively,  I only paid S$140 for the Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands.

Verdict

The stand itself is 86.6cm from the base to the mounting point at the top.  This is about the same height as a typical sofa set which placed the speakers near at human ear level.   Assembly certainly took me less than 15 minutes even without looking at the instructions provided. The whole feel of the stand is very stable and solid even with the heavy Sonos PLAY:1 mounted.  This is due to the heavy base plate of the Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands.  The cables are also nicely concealed by tunneling them through the middle of the vertical tube.  The cables popped out only at the top and bottom to connect to the speaker and below the base of the stand to connect to a wall socket.  Overall, I would say that the Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands certainly meet all the criteria I am looking for.  Of course, if the price of the Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands can be closer to S$100, it would certainly attract more buyers to jump in without hesitation.  I would give the Sanus WSS22-B2 Sonos Speaker Stands an 8.5 out of 10 for now so long it does not end up with the same issues I faced with the Flexson.
