Another HDD Casualty…

Today had a casualty in my study room. I turned on the DLink DNS-343 to back up my ever going collection and during to copying process from my RAID5 esata box to the NAS, I realize the copying rate is very much slower than usual. I thought “Oh-oh! This time sure die liao.” I quickly check the status of the 4 WD Green 1.5TB inside. True enough, the one in Slot 1 is showing signs if errors via the SMART monitoring.

Super sian liao. I took out the hdd from the NAS and plug into my pc to allow the western digital diagnostics tools to scan it. The quick test can’t even start whereas the extended test couldn’t complete, complaining of too many bad sectors.

No choice, generated a RMA request online. Then wrap the whole thing in an anti-static bag. Tomorrow got to find some time to bring it down. Oh yah. Realize the warranty is only till next year. Wondering if should get another 4xF4 2TB to replace this…
