This is a short update to my review of the D-Link Ultra WiFi Router DIR-885L. D-Link recently released the D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router. The smaller D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router comes with Dual Band Smart Connect instead of three on the D-Link DIR-890L but has a faster Dual Core processor running at 1.4Ghz and is Multi-User MIMO Ready.
During the testing of the review, although the test device was able to connect to the D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router at speeds of 450Mbps on the 2.4Ghz band, the throughput results tested using the iPerf3 server were very disappointing.
Nevertheless, I put the D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router to the test again by running an internet speedtest over the 2.4Ghz band from my iPhone 6 Plus. This time round, the speeds were more encouraging. The download and upload speeds can hit to about 54Mbps on my 200Mbps Fibre Internet with Starhub.
Just as a reference, I switched to the 5Ghz band of the D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router and ran the same test with the same server. The download and upload speeds can hit about 200Mbps and inline with the speed I have subscribed to.
In all the tests above, the client devices are placed a short and similar distance from the router. Hence, it seems that the 2.4Ghz of the D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router is working fine. Somehow, my original test wasn’t showing the correct responses I was expecting. Nevertheless, while I scout around for another AC1900 client adapter to test with, at least I know the D-Link DIR-885L AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router is working fine. 🙂
